Hi there, I'd like to share a concern with you on this, my first post on the forum. Why is it so difficult to find articles about the gothic rock sub genre in guitar magazines? What about guitar tabs? It is extremely difficult to find any tabs of gothic rock bands other than the big ones, Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Bauhaus...I'd really love to find tabs of bands like Love Like Blood, Dreadful Shadows/Zeraphine, Clan Of Xymox, Rosetta Stone, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, New Model Army, Nosferatu, etc. Also, it would be great to find an article in a guitar magazine reviewing the guitar techniques and effects used in this kind of music. My claim could be extended to some other music genres that seem to be left aside by all major guitar magazines. I'm subscribed to Guitarist and Total Guitar and I'm an occasional buyer of other magazines like Guitar Techniques, Guitar World, Guitar & Bass, and very seldom can I find articles of any underground genres. 90% of the contents of these magazines are focused on Blues, Indie, (mainstream) Metal and Pop/Folk/Songwriters. As much as I enjoy all these genres, I'd love to see other artists featured in these magazines instead of the usual Metal/Blues/Indie act being revisited on a monthly basis. What are your thoughts on this? |

The general media would prefer to focus on the mainstream. Its the same for music tv/gigs/festivals etc. Quite a lot of the music I would regularly listen to are unknown/underground bands, from varying genres. From word of mouth and through some very select websites are the only ways I would find out more about these bands. For guitar publications, they would similarly like to focus more articles on mainstream bands, not sub-genres or cult followings. Just be glad in the knowledge that YOU are following a particularly amazing music genre.
