I'm starting to plan out my pedalboard and need a couple answers

Well, I'm starting to plan ahead so I have a clear idea of what to get for my pedalboard, and for starters, I had a question about distortions; I'm planning to put a Vox satchurator or a similar distortion that has more top endy tones with a little big muff pi to get lower end saturation and fuzzy sounds. I'm wondering, is that really logical or even possible, combining a top end distortion pedal with a fuzzbox, or will it end in a crappy jumbled up mess? I like the big muff for it's fuzziness, but I want the mids and treble more accentuated, and I'm also thinking different pedals just so when I want less fuzz and just distortion, I could use one and vice versa.

So any thoughts?

you'd have to split your guitar signal into the pedals and then run them into seperate amps to truly achieve what you want (and i can't guarentee that). running the pedals into each other will more than likely be a sonic mess. might be fun to try but won't get you the results you're looking for. try the Electro Harmonix Metal Muff as that has a great EQ section and a top boost for crazy high end. pedals can only make up for so much of an amps lack of a certain sound you want. if the amp doesn't have a good high or low end response then you're gonna be limitedregardless of what you do.

Well, I'm getting more and more turned off by the Metal Muff because even without any distortion, it's already pretty fuzzy and harsh. I don't mind some buzz, but the tone overall doesn't seem like it get's a whole lot less fuzzy judging from the demos I've seen, which is why I want to combine two pedals. One that is designed for the bright almost clean but still distorted Paul Gilbert or Satch tone, and one that can accentuate really lower end sounds and fuzzy saturation with mid tones boosted by the first one.

well as an avid user of the Metal Muff i can say that fuzzy it aint unless you go nuts with the distortion. it has a very wide range of sounds and the best tone controls i've come across on a distortion pedal yet. it gives a great violin like sound for leads and great crunch for rhythm. don't know what vids you watched but alot of guys that play different styles swear by it. i currently own 4 different distortion pedals and have been through countless others over the years and unless you spend silly moey the MM is the best so far.

Hm, well, I guess if ever I can return it, but I've seen a guy play it with all the EQ, distortion and such all turned down, and it still sounded pretty fuzzy, but yeah. I'll see.

could you post a link i'm curious. it is a distortion pedal but if you play it through the clean channel of your amp then it shouldn't be fuzzy when turned down. you'll still get a bit of an overdriven sound of course.

Well, to clarify a bit, it wasn't all turned down, the guy just kept the EQ at noon and messed with each setting, but the distortion was all the way down at first and it still sounded fuzzy. Maybe a side effect from playing the loop?

shit vid that doesn't do things right. he is putting a distorted signal through the pedal and then moving controls. lazy and doesn't really show how the pedal behaves. i guarentee it doesn't sound like that with the distortion all the way down. it has a somewhat overdriven sound all the way down and then moves its way up to sonic doom when cranked. vids like this are why i always say try it yourself to make a determination.

(sorry for such a late reply)

Well, I think I'm liking the tones of the Satchurator a lot and I'm liking the more switch over the top boost, but yeah I'll check them both out.

Next up, I need recommendations for a chorus/flanger. I want to be able to get a really digitalized crazy almost unrecognizable sound, and then be able to dial back and get a sweet regular chorus tone. Any suggestions?

Dunno of anything like that, but you could try something like this and get a dedicated chorus
