Cliffs of Dover/Beast and Harlot Sound

Total Beginner question....

Been playing around with my AMP trying to see if I can get a sound similar to Cliffs of Dover or Beast and the harlot (the Rift part).

My question...

Is that a pretty basic sound off a AMP? (as in most AMPs can be tweaked to sound like it) or is that a pedal effect? or Combo?

Cliffs of dover the tone itself is fairly standard, add a little gain! Just a little, reverb, and delay, possibly some chorus too but i'm not sure about that? this is where you might need a pedal, but you won't get that close to the sound without a good guitar and amp!

Beast and the harlot is pretty much just a tight high gain tone! I'd say it's harmonized with 2 guitars as well, and I'd say use the neck pickup for the verses and the bridge pickup for the chorus as it's quite a sharp tone! But again if you don't have a good amp/distortion pedal and a reasonable guitar you aren't going to get that close to their tone :)

Have fun playing around with stuff anyway! And don't feel gutted if you can't get close to their tone! Remember these guys play the best equipment money can buy at the kind of volumes that it sounds best at!

COD will require some basic fx to get that sound. as for B&H that will require a guitar tuned down (C# i believe) to really get that sound. as Voodoo mentioned getting rock star tone with beginner equipment can be very frustrating. honestly even with good equipment it can be difficult. my best suggestion is to play around with the controls until you get the best approximation you can. along the way you'll probably find some tones you like as well.
and now for something completely different

Well that at least gives me some ideas to try out.

I'll play around more with my settings, I must admitt until this last week my AMP experience had been a "plug and play" and only touching the master volume control.
*time to get the manual out and play around with it*

I did notice the volume issue you mentioned. At first I praticed on a very low volume setting as I was rather shocked to find out just how loud a 15 watt AMP could realy be. Playing on the lower Vols could realy hear the hum of the strings off the guitar vs the sound off the amp.

Desided to give higher vol levels a try (broke out the 18ft cords instead of the 6ft I was useing) and turned it up. The Sound was much cleaner and more robust. The hum off the strings seemed to desappear as well. Only problem now is were my Amp is currently (living room) makes it hard for anyone else to listen to anything else LOL.

Time to clean a spot out in the basement :)

you have built in fx right? for COD use a little chorus and delay along with the tubescreamer to get the sound. insane distortion setting for the A7X tune. i wish i could be more specific but i don't have that amp or guitar. i do use a Line 6 POD for recording but that has way more options than your amp. as always experiment. try out all the sounds your amp can make. after a while you'll start to recognize different combos when you hear them.
