i don't have that phaser but i do use an MXR Phase 100. the effect makes a swirling sound that can be found on many studio recordings from jimi hendrix. if you listen to the roling stones song When The Whip Comes Down keith uses a phaser on that. you don't hear the swirling so much in high gain situaltions but you get a neat sound that makes single note riffs sound really heavy. i use one primarily for that purpose. |

experiment with it and i'm sure you'll find uses. fx are to give an added dimension to a song and with the exception of maybe distortion probably won't be used all the time or even frequently. over use tends to make you sound boring. |

Got where your coming from, use it when you can to add something but then cool it, I do use a bit of the old distortion I must admit, so mix and match, Methinks I have moved to soon on the efex bit, no probs. |

toys are fun so there's no harm in playing with them. i use a distortion pedal as part of my basic set up so thats always there. as for the other stuff well i pretty much only break them out if they are required for band practice or recording. now of course i've had many years to understand how to use them. when i practice at home i don't use them unless i need them to practice specific song parts that use them. generally this isn't the case though as its better to learn the song first without them and then add in the toys as needed. i don't really recommend that new players get involved with fx as you just end up making silly noises (fun though it may be) instead of practicing stuff that you need to. |

I must admit, in the shop I tried all the pedels on the board, but the only thing I was impressed with was the £800 strat they gave me to try them with, so I blame the wife she thought it sounded good, but my god dont it burn up the 9v batteries. I aint used it for a long time so dont know weather to flog it, or keep it, incase I get good. |

if you leave the chord plugged into the input jack then you wil go thru batteries like water. unplug toys for longer battery life. keep it as you get better you'll find uses for it. also as you learn more about how guitar works you may want t revisit that board. sooner or later you'll hear a sound on a song and wonder how he did that. the answer is often some fx. |
