Tool to learn major modes

Lo all,

This could be the most useful thing I've done on a rainy afternoon. I'm not trying to teach people how to suck eggs, (if you are uber theory master) I just found this to be the best way for me to learn it, thought i'd share.

The .gif attached is an E Major scale mapped across 24 frets, colour coded notes denote various intervals within the scale. Colour sequance depends on which mode you are using. I thought colour patterns would be the best way to to it, and couldn't find anything similar on the net.

For example I've learnt the major pattern (black to black) I want to play in E Phrgian, but G# Phrygian is listed. Find the pattern, purple note to purple note, shift the pattern down 4 frets. For E Mixolydian, orange to orange, shift 7 frets down etc etc.

I'll aim to learn the whole pattern across the neck memorising the intervals. Then just by shifting stuff about I'll get all 7 modes in all 13 keys.

Will post Harmonic Minor and Melodic Minor scales and modes when I get this in my head.

Any corrections, please let me know :$

Jim.
