check out epiphone as thye make some decent affordable acoustics. wood and playability are what you get for the money. with acoustics its things like bracing and sound hole projection that you pay for. |
| and now for something completely different | |

I'm pretty sure you won't get much good in the £100 range of acoustics, it might be worth saving another 50-100 quid or so to get a much better acoustic (second hand being preferable for quality of course), look at Freshman though and maybe Yamaha will do something reasonable in that price range, I know Fender do some for around £100 |

that yamaha looks good and they make nice acoustics as well. as for styles there is folk, classical, flamenco as well as acoustic rock and jazz. oh and of course country. i'm sure there are plenty of other "styles" of music that use acoustic guitars. as with electrics some guitars are better suited to a particular style. |

I have a Freshman and they are really nice guitars! I have played a couple of others and they are great. I've never played one that cost that little money but if their more expensive guitars are anything to go buy they are great value for what they are, i bought mine for just under £400 and it's all solid wood, nice even tone, very loud, nice frets, bracing inside the body is all neat and tidy, so yeah that one would be a good buy i guess. |

If this is your first acoustic or you,re just starting out or just want something to widdle around on whilst watching telly. then get yourself a Yamaha. You can get a brand new F-310 from Argos for less than £100. I have a F-310 for living room practice and its an OK guitar. If you can increase your budget then thats great and both Crafter and Freshman have good guitars in their ranges for £150-£200. But if you,re on a tight budget, look on ebay for the Yamahas But best to pop into your local music store and actually play a few,see which type of neck and strings suit you best. If you,re earning, then you might want to consider the "Take it Away"scheme from the arts council. Google "Take it away". RALPH |
