Virtual amp

I have a few programs, guitar rig 3, Guitar FX box 2.7, etc. These programs are virtual amps and I have gotten them working with my mic. However my mic is staticy and low quality sounding so I bought a 1/4 to 1/8 converter to plug my guitar into my soundcard.

I'm trying to figure out how to configure the Asio settings so instead of using my mic for line-in it uses the line-in outlit on my soundcard which my guitar is plugged into. On the dropdown all it has is my microphone and I don't know how to get it to show up on the drop-down.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Well i don't know how to solve it i'm afraid (and i don't know much about using a guitar through a PC) but maybe the guitar won't show up on the drop down menu because it isn't an installed/plug and play item.

Can you connect the guitar to the amp and then the amp to the PC? Plug it from the amps line out into the computers Line-in maybe, that way all the signal is processed already and your PC just has to act as a carrier for it, and you can select the line in from the drop down menu? It probably won't work but i'm just trying to be helpful :P

Well, I plugged it into the blue hole on the back of my PC. Apparently it has something to do with ASIO drivers or something but so far I've had no luck getting any guitar amp software to recognize any type of line-in besides my microphone.

http://guitar-sound.info/

If you go there and scroll down about half-ways to the image of a black connection that has a ear-phone plug looking 1/8 thing at the end you'll see what I'm trying to do. By the way my computer isn't showing any signs of recognizing the guitar being plugged in what so ever, the problem is definitly input not output, anyways I tried both the black line-out hole and regular green speaker plug many times. I'm pretty sure it's some sound drivers/asio driver thing I need.

Just a quickie while i look into that, have you tried going through your amp rather than straight from the guitar?

If there is a dedicated headphone socket try that too :/

I don't have a second 1/8 cord to plug from my guitar to the amp to the computer, however I plugged it into my mic outlit and it's just as bad as using the micrphone, plenty static and bad sound quality.

Oh and the statics not really that loud it's just like a bunch of excess noise hard to explain.

sounds like you need to get a set up that goes thru usb cables. most setups you can buy use usb not the mic. the impedence on your mic is different than the guitar and not compatible thats why your getting all the static etc.
and now for something completely different

Yeah it seems that unless you have a pretty hardcore sound card then USB is the best way to go :/

That's not really what i'm talking about, the quality or anything like that. I'm just trying to get this Line-in outlit to work.

The line-in outlit doesn't even show up anywhere on any of the software and I can't hear one bit of sound from it because I can't select it to begin with. Under audio options on the amp software on the Output: I should see the line-in plug not just a microphone. I have to figure out why this line-in outlit isn't doing anything at all, it's most likely a driver I need, i'll take this to a computer forum, thanks anyway.

If this doesn't work i'll buy a USB cable.

My PC is a nightmare with my webcam, it's a right pain everytime i use it, i have to go and change my audio settings and decibel levels!

maybe you have to change the windows audio settings to select the line in to something other than Mic?
