I have never been sure that drummers who sing too (except backing vox) is a good idea. Wondered what you lot think? My band is trying to suggest that i should sing at an up and coming gig, as the singer is incapasitated with a heavy cold. Oh no it is the decision i never wanted to have to make!! What to do??

As long as you can pull it off and your drumming isnt limited then go for it! Maybe use a wireless headset if you can get hold of one. I play to a click, so id find it difficuilt! 3 things at once!! |

Yeah.... headset would be v handy....don't want to have a kn*****ed neck if i can help it. It's more the front man element that worries me than the two things at once. I used to play to a click and can imagine that that could be quite.........errr .....interesting and challenging!! hehe |

It can be done. Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters is a good example. HE is not normally the singer but when he is its still great. Cold Day In The Sun is the one where he drums and sings |

The drummer for the band Atreyu is one of the best singers i've heard in a while for that style of music. i think you should try it and see what happens. ;D |

i agree with the Atreyu drummer, he is a very good singer and he has a loverley voice. I saw them around 3 months ago and they were a great live act, even met the guitarists after and stood talking to Travis for well over a hour, everything under the sun about guitars came out and he was probs one of the most chilled out and down to earth band members i have ever met. There is photos of me with him lol i may even have to upload them eventually lol. But yeah another example is the Funeral For a Friend drummer, fair enough he screams haha but still he uses a wireless headset although he looks like some demented chicken on drums while he is singing lol. |
