Getting a decent sound from.....

 A Fender 212R amp ?
I picked one of these up for £60 ($120) recently as a temporary fix while my 25th anniversary Marshall tube amp (one of the best amps ive ever used) gets a long needed service,it will be out of action for around 3 weeks.

Ive found that the clean sound isnt that bad on the Fender,maybe a little thin but with a little bass and reverb i can get a sound im reasonably happy with,where as the built in overdrive is pants and using a stand alone distortion helps but i still cant get the sound i want.

I know that the Fender 212R isnt rated very high among some guitarists but for the next month i dont really have a choice as i have various gigs to play so im just going to have to make do,so im looking for advice on what i can do with the stuff i already have (listed below) with the option of spending a bit more cash on an other pedal

Guitars (Im using GHS Boomers 10's)
Aria Pro II (With Twin Seymour Duncan Humbuckers)
Washburn G IV (86')
Marlin Brand Gibson SG copy
Cruiser by Crafter style Strat

Pedals
Boss DS-1
Boss DD-3
Marshall SV-1 Supervibe Chorus
Marshall "GUV'NOR" Overdrive
DOD Thrashmaster
Zoom 504 II

So if anyone can create a decent sound out of this set up (using the Fender 212R) please let me know

 what do you play. it would help to know what sound you are looking for. you should be able to get a decent classic rock sound with the DS-1. i would suggest using it with you distortion channel. just use the gain know as just that a little extra gain and controling the volume swith the master volume. try your different distortion pedals and vary the gain. keeping the gain below (number wise ie gain on 2 master volume on 3) will keep your highs from dropping out. bottom line it anint gonna sound like your marshall. just experiment and remember that you kinda will have to start from scratch since its a different amp.

 Thanks for the quick reply monwobobbo,i play a bit of everything but in my current band we play a few punk songs and a few grungy songs.I like to have a crunch in my distorted sound but with the fender amp its a struggle to find that balance of treble that sounds good,alot of the time it sounds like a whiny mess.

As you said im better off starting from scratch to get a decent sound but i was wondering what you think about buying a pedal that can emulate a tube sound also?

any advice on how to get a nice gun's and roses/poison soloes and riff?

if your using a solid state amp then you're gonna be hard pressed to get a realistic tube sound. i have a tubescreamer that i have used with SS amps but honestly the results have been only OK. your best bet is to try to find a sound that you can live with until you get your tube amp back. with a little experimentation you may be suprised and find a decent tone that works for you even though its a little different from what you are used to.
