Nylon string vs Steel string, cutaway vs non-cutaway, electro-acoustic vs acoustic....I'm torn between steels and nylons cos I prefer the sound and feel of nylon string...but love the music of steel stiring guitarists whose stuff can only be played on steel string....grrr |

haven't really played alot of nylon string guitars and have never owned one. when i do play acoustic i don't really play way up on the neck much so no cutaway doesn't bother me much. my acoustic playing is pretty much campfire stuff as i really don't play it much otherwise. |
| and now for something completely different | |

can't really comment on the strings part but I will say that having a cut away really doesn't matter unless you plan on playing solos meant for electric guitars on an acoustic. |

by preference i choose steel...nylon hurts my fingers.. though the sound of a nylon is really good, the health of my fingers are more important to me than good sound... |

With acoustics I play steel strings , I only play nylons on my classical. My acoustic is non-elec & has a cut away 'cos I do play all over the neck & it helps greatly for this. I would say it depends on what type of stuff you want to play, if you're going to perform it live etc. It's really then down to personal prefs. Decide on exactly what criteria your aiming at & take it from there. Good luck. |
