Hey guys
Nice finding you this is my first post

Right I have been playing guitar for four years and I have a marshall mg15cdr and a yamaha pac-112. I think it's about time to get a new amp.

Is the mg100hdfx amp head good?
Oh and I play death/black/thrash/speed/power metal(core simetimes).

Thanks in advance dudes

STAY METAL :P

well it will sound better than what you have now but don't expect miracles. the head is ok but the 4x12 bottom that usually gets paired up with it is crap. its cheap for a reason. i used a dfx100 combo for a while and it served me well but just traded it in for a tube amp. i think you'll find that most if not all here will say get a tube amp if you can afford it. Peavey valve king is affordable and will do the trick. unless you have a true need for a head and 4x12 bottom you may want to consider a combo as they are a little more versitile (and not as heavy). your best bet is to try any amp you're looking at and see how it sounds. if it sounds good to you than thats all that matters.

Heads are NOT AMPS!!!!

They are like the brains, the cab is like the brawns,
No brains, no brawn,
No brawn no brains, get it?

Get a combo amp, Like a roland cube 30, Those are always good amps

dude i know that!!

i would probably need it for giging and recording and that kind of stuff

2 hours on the internet learning things about guitars (tabs not included that would go to 4 :P ) for fours years usualy helps B)

anyway i had posted a question on a greek guitar forum (that's were i live, i was born in england) and everybody said that the cube 30 wouldn't be a good metal or giging amp so i don't think i'll go for that, thanks anyway

don't mind dave he's cool (and he does know metal). we do get alot of newbies on here and no offense but they often have a set up like yours and then want to suddenly go for some huge expensive set up that they don't have a clue about. back to your original ?. the marshall will be ok however you still may want to consider either a 1x12 or 2x12 set up. they are easier to transport and better for recording work. i know that the huge stacks look cool but honestly they aren't all that practical unless you are playing large venues. once again if you can afford tubes (valves) then go for an amp with them. either the Peavey valveking series or the tube vypyr series are good and affordable. Marshall tube amps are of course great but very expensive. also consider the Marshall AVT series. they are hybrids (tube preamp solid state power section) as they will give a better sound.

sorry dudes i didn't want to sound offensive. Actually in the greek forum wich (no offense) has way more members i have 4 stars from 5 so i wouldb't consider myself a guitar god but neither a newbie. Anyway i need a big and f*****g loud amp because the venue is kinda big...

not trying to imply that you are a newbie just letting you know where dave was coming from. this is a reletively new forum and we're trying to get members who post regularity. now if you need a big and loud amp then why are you looking at a pussy solid state amp? get some balls and get a big tube amp. you haven't said how much you want to spend on this (just convert greek to english pounds or american dollars so we know). we have some knowledgeable people here (i've been playing for almost 30 years) give us something to work with.

Mon is right, Peavey Valveking 212... B)

Roland cube 30's are very metal

The Cube 60's are very metal as well

That was only on 4 1/2 and if that doesn't have a good metal tone i dont know what does

VALVEKING 2x12. that really isn't enough to get a decent head and bottom so once again a 2x12 is what i'm recommending. i looked at your profile and if your birthdate is right i'm guessing you're not playing at madison square garden. believe me you don't need a huge amp to play out with. personally i use either a 30 watt 1x12 or a 50 watt 2x12. my 2x12 will kill most half stacks for volume. one more thing perhaps you should consider getting a better guitar as the one you have is a good beginner guitar its not exactly the guitar i'd want to gig with.

gotta say that guitar and amp are a package deal. yeah a good amp will make an ok guitar sound as good as it can. sorry but the pacifica you have while a good beginner guitar really isn't gig worthy. the pickups in it will sound thin thru a big amp and won't give you killer tone. not saying that you'd have to spend a fortune on another guitar but its worth some more thought. i have a cheap ibanez that i use to noodle on while watching tv and believe me you can hear the difference between it and my better guitars when plugged into one of my good amps. my strat has more balls than the ibanez if that tells you something.

oh the forum is a couple of years old. we're trying i've been here a couple of months and have done whta i can to give people a reason to come back.
