Bass Amp for a beginner?

Newbie Posts: 3 Group: Members Member #8,670 Joined: July 20, 2008	Hey, Im a complete beginner to the entire world of guitars and in fact instruments as a whole however after being convinced by a m8 of mine, who plays lead, ive decided to take up Bass. Unfortunately i know absolutely nothing about guitars atm, so help with the following questions would be great!!! I've had a very thorough look around and I think i would like an ESP Ltd B-50 Bass Guitar in Black, is this a good choice ? Secondly, should i go for this guitar can any1 recommend a good 10 watt amp to compliment it. I'm on a bit of a budget unforuntely so nothing over Ł80 and preferably alot less! Plus, is there anything massively important any1 can reccommend i get or have a look at? Even if it seems damn obvious I dont want to miss anything vital All opinions appreciated Edited by JG101, Jul 20 2008, 10:57 PM.

Posts: 1,032 Group: Moderator Member #8,625 Joined: June 23, 2008	i have that bass except mines purple. it is a good beginer model and plays easy and sounds decent for the price. i use it to record demoes with and can't complain. Fender and Crate both make decent practice amps for bass i'd try one of those. don't forget to check on used stuff as you can find better stuff cheaper. get an electronic tuner being in tune is always a good thing. a decent cord as well.
	and now for something completely different

Member Posts: 56 Group: Members Member #8,784 Joined: August 30, 2008	Peavey's make good bass amp. I used to have a 15-watt Laney which sounded alright. You could always try a Roland, too. I can ask Igor down at Into Music tomorrow, he's an avid bass player. He can definitely give you some great tips. I bought my first bass + amp from him when he was only an employee at a different music shop. He was incredibly helpful. The package I wanted to buy had a crappy 10-watt amp and he said, "you need a decent amp at the very least if you want to have a good bass sound", and with those words, he tossed in a bunch of bass picks and switched the crappy amp for the Laney. I used picks when I wanted to try some different sounds. But I ended up playing with my fingers instead, because 1) Faster, smoother, more in control - better playability that produced better sound. 2) It looked so fking cool!

I,ve got a 15w Park bass amp and its very good. As for the bass itself. Default setting is a P-Bass. However,there are some really nice basses out there for not a lot of cash and if you,re doing the goth rock/heavy metal thing then take a look at gear4music. They have a good range of budget basses at very attractive prices. Vintage and Ibanez are also good brands. RALPH
