Good Recording gear what to buy though?; A lot out there wich is best?

 Hmm i got a new amp for christmas so im pretty content but i want to record some stuff i have about 220 right now but can i record through my amp to the guitar with the one you recommend? i really have no idea on what to buy.... or whats good or bad...

what about the Line6 POD i see that would work on my Amp to go through it to record my amp sounds so would that be any good?
