Um, hi guys, this is my first topic ever. Woo.

I've been looking around for ages at what I'd like for my next bass, but ive fallen in love with the esp ex 50 model guitar, (type that into google images, youll find loads of pics), but i cant find a bass verison that look sanything like this. The closest I've found is a thunderbird.

This is a link to see the guitar on google images:

http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=+esp+e...18&sa=N&ndsp=18

I dont know if the question im asking is a possibility, but would any custom bass manufacturers be able to turn that guitar into a bass? Sorry if it sounds stupid, but ive never ventured into the world of custom made before.

Thanks everyone. :)

I was wondering about that, it would probably lose most of the allure :/
would it not be adviseable because it would sound awful or because it would loo about as graceful as a stoned duck?

The biggest problems that will confront you will be (apart from the Neck) that you are looking at pretty major changes with just about everything. All the Pickups will be useless to you, The Bridge will need changing and so it goes on.

I'd suggest that you keep an eye open on Ebay,,,,,Hamar used to make a Bass that wasn't far off that. Sort of a Bass Explorer, I have no idea as to what they would set you back, but I would also consider an Epiphone or Gibson Thunderbird.

Alternatively......How are your Woodworking Skills? There is always the Build Your Own Route? ;)

THERE YA GO.....Epiphone used to do an Explorer Shaped Bass

Thanks so much :)
I dont mind doing things with the bridge and pickups and the elctrics, ive done work on those before, and pretty much everyone I know have done as well, a few of my friends have built their own, but I'm not sure whether I have the experience to build my own just yet.
That BC Rich looks really nice, but I have no experience with BC Rich. Are they decent guitars for metal?

I've jsut looked at the Hamer guitar- that looks ideal, still cant find a bass version.

it's called a 'Hamer XT Standard '

http://www.backandforth.nl/Hamer/hamerlist_04_0004.jpg

So want a bass one :(
I'm going to talk to some people I know soon about the DIY route and see what that would be like.

The epiphone is ideal.
Never used a epiphone either, My experience is mainyl with jacksons, ibanezes, yamahas, corts, etc.
Worth getting for a gig guitar?

Er.... Whoops!!!!!!

Try THIS!

http://cgi.ebay.com/Epiphone-Explorer-Bass...1QQcmdZViewItem :D :D :D :D

Sorry thought I had got the Link Wrong!!

I know several people who regularly Gig with Epiphone Basses. In Fact.....My Last Band's Bass Player used a Thunderbird and an Explorer Style Bass........They sounded absolutely Monsterous!!!!!! HUGE Sound and REALLY Nice Quality

really?
Because that guitar looks lovely and if the sound is great...
When I'm playing some fast thrashy stuff (covering all of the fretboard, even the high end) is the sound still good?

Also, I've noticed that the Dean Metalman Z bass is similar (not as nice looking, but almost) and has some great reviews.

http://www.thomann.de/gb/prod_large_AR_110221.html

It seems readily available for around £200 as well, and I know Dean are pretty lush. Do you know anything about that guitar?

I know Zip about Basses. :D
But I do know what I like to hear......... And certainly Dean do make a Good Enough Guitar....so I would expect their Basses to be at least comparable?

As to style of music.......either one will do the job.

Thanks so much for your help!
I'm now set on either the Epiphone/Dean, whichever one is the easier to get ahold of really.
