why do you wana learn drums? You can do so much more with guitar. Play the guitar, get good at guitar. Let someone else play the drums. |

I played guitar for about a year and a half before learning to play the drums. A teacher at my old school decided he was teaching drums for free, so I thought, why not? I am thinking of getting a drum teacher now, just so I can have the knowledge to play more instruments. I can also play the piano aswell. It's good to know how to play a wide range of instruments. Though I think you should wait till you have got the hang of guitar first before you go confusing matters  |

Yeh true, by all means you can learn another instrument (I nearly wrote weapon for some reason then lol) but try and concentrate on one at a time, otherwise you might not progress as well as you could in one fo the instruments because your'e having to think about a different one. But if you really think you can... Go for it !!!

As mentioned above, focus on guitar as it is technically more difficult but once you're fairly adept at guitar you can start dedicating more time to drums or other instruments. Playing both at the same time is impossible though. Guitars = bad drumsticks Drums = bad picks |

I started playing guitar first, i then switched to drums when i bought a Premier kit off my bro. I played drums on and off for several years before switching back to my beloved Lead Guitar. Now all i have is an old Roland Drum Machine |

What did you prefer Vee? Ive always thought you would get more satisfaction from being better at guitar rather than drums. This true? |

if you think you have the time for both drums and guitar then hey why not learn both, i personally find it hard enough to get time to play guitar never mind another instrument. if you think you can do both go for it

Thats a toughy dan, i would say prob the guitar, the drums however are a great release. The biggest advantage of the guitar is you can play for hours on your own, the drums on your own can become a bit tedious! |

After playing guitar for 5 years, I decided to start playing drums, which was two years ago now. I think its an awesome idea for guitarists to start playing drums, as there just are not enough drummers out there, and those who are drummers arent expressive enough! In modern music, I see that drumemrs tend to just play standard beats, instead of being expressive. Look at Vinnie Paul, he played RIFFS on drums. He played to match what Dimebag was playing. Play ANY pantera song, and you will hear the similarities between Vinnies drumming and Dimebags guitaring. Other drummers to listen to are Andrea Vadrucci, and that dude from Paradise Lost, cant think of his name now. These are all drummers that are also guitarists, and express music in the same way between the instruments. |
