Need Some Advice; Getting Recording Equipment

I've wanted for a long long time to be able to record some stuff. But I have no idea what to buy.

At first, I started out using a 10 dollar computer mic and Audacity. That hasn't worked very well.

Can I get some like.. good beginner equipment to buy? Mics or whatnot.
I was thinking about getting this (tascam) because my sisters boyfriend has it and he said it works beautifully, and it's pretty cheap.

Anyone else have any good advice? Just some simple, decently cheap recording gear.

Thanks.

Seems like a nice little interface for such a price, and to accompany that, you should get a Shure SM58.....that will definitly last you for years, for recording, and live performances.
Software wise, Audacity is fine, but not great. At the moment, i use Cubase LE or Cubase SX. Both great programs. If you want, i can give you Cubase LE for cheap.

yea what i hate about using any kind of mic is having to keep a silent environment. no ambient noise at all is allowed. line 6 has some nice things for recording. like the guitarport and pod models have line out, and guitarport is made for recording. its pretty cheap too and they all come with some nice recording and editing software. you seem to be on a low budget so this and what you alreay suggested are some of the best choices. you may find something better if you keep looking and remember to look for user reviews before purchasing.

As for cheap gear... buy a 4 track, you cant go wrong buyying any digital four track, there all pretty similar as for the recording capability, if you really get serious about recording, get yourself a bad ass computer, with plenty of hard drive space and RAM, and get pro tools, a good sized mixer (i have a 24 channel), reason (drum track software), and a supply of Shure SM57s... im a intermediate sound engineer, and in a few months ill be going to school to get certified in pro tools... so yea... go 4 track or go home for now

it might be worth investing in a stand alone mutitracker. however if you want to stick with the computer then if your using a desktop mabe have a look at a delta 44 pci card? the quality is realy good!
Also you might want to invest in a condensor mic as this will also help to improve the quality!

Or if you don't want to go putting PCI cards in your computer, try a Lexicon Omega
