How does the invader sound? I hear mixed emotions about them. |

It's super loud, very bassy, but still clear. Lots of people call it muddy, but it depends on the guitar you put it in. Also, I'm really into stoner-rock kind of stuff, so I dig sludge
Back to the Invader.... it's good for controlled feedback, and gets pinch harmonics like crazy. If you have a thin sounding guitar, like a Gibson SG, it's a great pickup. |

I've only tried the 81/60 combo in a store, but it was pretty rocking. They were in some Dean guitar. As far as the 81/85, I've tried them in a couple ESPs, a Les Paul, a bunch of Strats and Strat copies, tons of Ibanez guitars, a couple Kramers.... I've tried both in the neck & bridge positions, and I like the 85 better for the neck. It's super thick, and makes all the notes super round and fat. If it's a thin sounding guitar, I like the 85 in the bridge, thick sounding, the 81. Or, if I want something that's just sludgey as all get out, the 85 in both slots. Bottom line, they sound great in everything. The myth that they make all guitars all sound the same is total crap, too. If you try them, and find they're too compressed, you can wire a second battery, running them at 18v. They sound more open that way. For metal, I prefer 9v. |

In a few days, you can add the DiMarzio Air Zone to the list of pickups I've tried. I swapped my Fred for one. FWIW, the Fred is a sweet pickup, just not quite enough output for me. |

Any of you guys played Bareknuckle pickups? I have a miracle man, and it really is the so called 'shizzle.' It is fantastic for tight metal tones, or compressed metal cleans. And the customer service is great, as is the choice of finishes.![]() That one is mine, I love the burnt chrome

Yeah those are meant to be great, but they all are. They're damned expensive though. Has anyone tried swinesheads? They get a lot of praise, but I've never actually played any. |

I've heard stuff about Swineshead, too. I'm still wanting to try a BK Nailbomb, though. I've been borderline neurotic about swapping pickups the last few years, and have come to the conclusion that while the pickup plays an important role in the tone equation, amps make the biggest difference. |
