Has anybody tryed the Tubescreamer pedals? what are they like and what amps did you play them through? I ask because I plan on getting one to boost my valveking but I'm afraid that it won't push it into metal territory which I want. So help please ..... |

my friend has one and he uses it through an old fender of some sort. it works well for classic rock and blues but not so well for metal (but that may just be his amp too.) i have a line 6 uber metal distortion pedal that would take almost any amp to metal territory. its got pretty good control over the tone on it so im sure you could find something you like. good luck! |

thanks for the info!! I'm not sure about using a distortion pedal on a tube amp though. I heard it can do bad things? |

I heard crap like that before but Randy Rhoads used tube amps and DIstortion pedals so I dont think so. |

If you want metal that I suggest ametal zone. If you want overdrive for classic rock, blues ect get a distortion+ |

Pretty much everybody in the metal (extreme metal, anyway) community uses a Tubescreamer, or something similar, in front of their amps. Typically, the tone is set flat, the gain is almost all the way down, and the level is dimed. The Metal Zone is ok, but there's better stuff. Try getting the tone from a combination of the pedal and you amp's gain. |

yeah, thats why I thought I would get a tubescreamer. But my amp is a Valveking renowned for classic rock, so I want to boost it to metal. Would a TS work? |

Check here:http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-TS9-Tube-Screamer-Effects-Pedal-Original-Reissue?sku=150284 At the bottom they have sound clips. The one that says humbucker amp on overdrive sound like a metal tone. |

Do you have a store like Guitar Center close to you? It's a huge chain in the US that stocks a billion different pieces of gear. You can also take your own stuff in to try it with other gear. |

An overdrive will do fine for metal if you have a tube amp (itll sound sweeter, unless you're really into the intense stuff) i think a ts should be fine (but i'd also look at a Maxon OD9) |
