Guitarist In Dispair
Posted by MyFriend (Members) at May 13 2012, 05:03 AM. One comment
Does anyone know how to overcome the intense feeling of embarassment and dispair when dealing with writing and listening to your own music, and feeling like it's never good enough? I'm a very technically fluent and theoretically knowledgeable electric guitarist with years of experience, but I can never feel confident in my own playing. I think it could be because I can only see all the things that are not good in my playing, or in my musical ideas. I want to feel okay about my own playing and creative output. Tell me there's a way out of this pit and into some kind of delerious wonder and awe!!

What gear did you get for Christmas?
Posted by roast (Co-Admin) at Jan 7 2012, 05:39 AM. 2 comments
I know, I'm a little late with this thread.
So guys, what did you all get guitar-wise for Christmas? Anything nice?
My sister bought me an awesome over-sized guitar stand. Well needed for my bass! I can't put my bass on normal guitar stands, as there's lighting circuitry mounted on the bass itself, which can get squished.
I also bought myself a christmas present this year. It's a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI footswitch/controller. I'll be using it with my new Bass amp rig and Guitar amp rig that I'm picking up in the next couple of months. What do you think?

Going in circles

I've played acoustic instruments most of my life (banjo and guitar). I've mostly played bluegrass but I've always like listening to 70's and 80's rock bands (Bad Company, Foreigner, ZZ Top, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Ozzy, Ratt, Motley Crue, etc). I bought a Fender Strat and it's giving me more trouble than I expected. It's not the guitar, it's me. I don't think in terms of an electric instrument. I figured it would be a lot more similar than it is. I get lost in buttons and knobs on my guitar and amp. I bought several videos from Lick Library. I can mimic things if I stay at it long enough but nothing is coming together. My guitar seems like a foreign animal. I know I can do it. Learning to play a 5-string banjo well was no easy feat. I just feel overwhelmed. I think it's because of the lead characteristics the sound lacks fill or something to me. (Not feel; fill). Even with the acoustic guitar there is, I want to say, a constant ringing (for lack of a better word). With this electric it seems hit and miss.
Anyone ever been here? Any advice? It comes together in time?

John Mayall touring UK
Posted by Rich Rice (Members) at Jun 2 2011, 06:42 AM. 3 comments
Well, we built a custom bass for Greg Rzab, John Mayall's current bassist. He plans on using the bass on their upcoming tour. It was amazing to get to know him, and a gas to have him sitting around my living room, visiting and playing. I wish I could get out to the UK to see the band in action, but it isn't in the cards at this time. If you have an opportunity to catch the Mayall show, keep an eye on the bass player. He's a heck of a musician with an incredible touring history.
Any comments are welcome, I'm really interested to have first hand impressions of the sound of his Rice Custom bass in concert. Thanks!

Please help me identify this tune/artist

Please help me identify this artist
I'm trying to identify this tune and the artist who wrote it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5sWsa__zwQ
(Yes I know it features hotties, enjoy... It's not mine, btw)
I asked the guy who posted it and he doesn't remember where he took the music from. I know it's easy listening and slightly on the cheesy side, but I find it strangely enjoyable.
If you can't identify it, can you direct me to artists who play in that style?
Many thanks!
Florian

Blizzard in USA- Holy Cow!
Posted by Rich Rice (Members) at Feb 1 2011, 01:32 PM. One comment
I just got a little taste of things to come- shoveled 3" of snow from the driveway... Blizzard warnings for much of the US starting at 3PM, lasting at least 24 hours. The weather people here are freaking out, predicting snowfall of 3"-5" per hour, measuring predicted snowfall to be 1-2 feet.. I'm going to settle in, carve some necks, and hang by the computer for the next three days.
Strat re-wiring help needed
Posted by RyanE1992 (Members) at Jan 31 2011, 02:09 PM. One comment
Hey im re-wiring a strat copy, and have bought the wiring kit but need to ask a fe questions bout how to set it up
-Firstly my solder joints are matt silver rather than shiny silver, but they look as though they are really in contact with the potentiometers still. so will it probably still be ok as i have not tested yet?
-Also does it matter which way round the 5 way select switch is inserted?
-and is there a certain layout for the pickups.i have 3 single coil pickups and am just wondering if they are all the same or different.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Happy holidays to all!

Hi all,
Let's keep this short and sweet. This time of year is an overrated commercial holiday, aimed at children and girlfriends. But for those who aren't under 12 and/or a clingy girlfriend....have a good one anyway!!

So in my time completely forgetting about EGF, I put a set of EMG's in my Epi Korina Explorer (SOUNDS AMAZING!) I got a new (used) Bugera 333XL and Marshall MG Cab, the cab is alright for now, but the head is AMAZING. I can't wait to put some V30's in there.
So what new gear have you guys gotten?
